Sandboarding is exactly what it sounds like: gliding down sand dunes on a board. No snow needed, no experience needed — just the desire to have fun.
**How does sandboarding work?** The board is similar to a snowboard but wider and has a special coating for sand. Standing, sitting or lying down — you choose the method. Beginners start sitting, the brave ones stand straight away.
**How fast do you go?** On steep dunes, surprisingly fast — 30–40 km/h is possible. The sand brakes more gently than snow, though, and falls usually end in a cloud of sand and lots of laughter.
**The best dunes around Hurghada** Just behind the city, the sand dunes of the Eastern Sahara begin. Our safaris head to dunes 15–25 metres high — steep enough for adrenaline, not so steep as to be uncontrollable.
**Is it tiring?** Going down: not at all. Walking back up: a little — sand gives way underfoot. After 5–6 runs you'll have felt your legs. But it's worth it.
**Who is it suitable for?** For everyone from around age 8, with no physical restrictions. No sporting experience required. Families, couples, groups — sandboarding always makes everyone laugh equally loudly.
**What to wear?** Long trousers recommended (sand on skin), sunglasses, closed shoes. Sand gets everywhere — that is part of the experience.
