Hurghada has a desert climate: little rain, lots of sun, but significant temperature differences between summer and winter. This makes the question of when to travel more important than at many other destinations.
**October to April — peak season** October to April are considered the ideal travel months. Daytime temperatures range from 22 to 30°C, the water is pleasantly warm (22–26°C) and humidity is low. For day trips to Luxor or Cairo, these months are perfect — no sweltering heat.
*December and January* are the coolest months. Evenings can drop to 15–17°C — a light jacket for the evening makes sense. Daytime, though: 22–25°C, no comparison to a European winter.
*March and April* occasionally bring Khamsin winds from the desert: sandy, hot, and sometimes hazying the horizon. Rare, but possible.
**May and September — shoulder season** Mild heat (30–35°C), no summer extremes yet. Lower prices, fewer tourists. Water temperatures ideal at 26–28°C.
**June to August — midsummer** Temperatures of 36–42°C, sometimes more. Perfectly manageable for beach and sea, but exhausting for day trips to Luxor or Cairo. If you love the heat and avoid crowds: summer can be wonderful. For families with children and people with circulatory issues, we recommend other months.
**Water temperatures year-round** The Red Sea never drops below 20°C — even in January, snorkelling is possible. In summer the water reaches 29–30°C.
**Our verdict** Best all-round months: **November, February, March**. Best value: **May and September**. Summer months only recommended for heat lovers.
